Attorney
Nick was raised in both Bozeman and St. Mary, Montana, where his family runs a campground near Glacier National Park. He grew up working for the family business and getting lost in the beauty of Glacier. Nick graduated from Bozeman High School in 2006 and then attended Carroll College, where he obtained a B.A. in International Relations and Political Science, and minored in philosophy. While in college, Nick was president of the debate team, and was selected as an intern for the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank in Washington D.C.

After graduating from Carroll in 2010, Nick attended University of Montana School of Law, where he was a member of multiple moot court teams and helped coach the University’s debate team part-time. Nick always knew that he wanted to work in criminal defense, and tailored his law school education towards criminal law by completing a wide array of criminal law courses, including white collar crime, domestic violence, advanced criminal procedure, advanced constitutional law, and was a member of the Federal Defenders Clinic during his third year.

After graduating law school in 2013, Nick clerked for Justice Mike Wheat on the Montana Supreme Court. Shortly after the clerkship was complete, Nick married his wife, Samantha, and moved to Missoula to be with her. Nick was hired at Smith & Stephens PC Law Offices in 2015 as the newest member of the criminal defense team.

In his free time, Nick is an avid outdoorsman who loves fishing Montana’s famous rivers with his wife, hunting pheasants on our vast plains with his trusty Labrador, or skiing fresh powder on our towering mountains.
